Skin Care Products For Men That We Recommend

by Low Jeremy

With the birth of the metrosexuals, men are increasingly made aware of their appearances. In fact, some women even complain that their boyfriends now spend more time at the mirror than they do.

One of the booming industries brought on by the metrosexual phenomena is the skin care industry especially those that focus on men. The industry has become so big that cosmetic and skin care lines that only catered to women have started to also develop skin care products for men.

There are now astringents and lotions for men. Some companies have even developed facial wash for men, a skin care staple that men would not have bought a decade ago.

Below are some of the products that have captured the interest and fancy of the male population.

Mask it!

Who would have thought that women will see the day when men will go to sleep with clay or mud all over their face? This however is prevalent in these times, as men have finally realized the advantages of deep cleaning his pores to prevent pimples and acne from settling in. The Anthony Logistics Deep Pore Cleansing Clay, which costs about $22 in the market, is one of the best in the line. It combines the properties of flowers with vitamins and purified clay to help the skin absorb excess oils, remove impurities and toxins as well as tighten the pores.

Moisturize it

Men also use moisturizers. As far-fetched as it seems, men also need moisturizers to help keep their skin supple and soft. Moisturizers, as women know, can prevent visible signs of aging by keeping the skin’s natural oils.

This is especially true with men who have dry skins. One of the products in the market that comes highly recommended is the Clinique Maximum Hydrator for Men, which will cost them about $26. It can be pretty expensive but it sure does the job.

Scrub it

To take care of the skin, one needs to get rid of dead skin cells, which may clog the pores or combine with dirt and grime. One of the essentials of exfoliating, is the T-Pur Face Purifying Scrub for Men, which is manufactured by Biotherm. Costing about $15 each, the scrub helps cleanse the skin.

Be careful though and make sure that the scrub is not so abrasive on your skin. Too much scrubbing can irritate the skin and worsen the problem.

Negative Side To Conventional Cosmetics

by Anastasia Ellison

Women and men spend millions of dollars every year attempting to improve the quality and health of their skin. They spend time and money on products and services to refinish the surface of their skin only to return to habits and routines that continue to damage both their skin and bodies. Most cosmetic and beauty products contain additives, preservatives, and chemicals designed to improve appearances at the cost of health. Not only do conventional cosmetics clog pores and weigh down skin, they also contain harmful toxins that absorb into the blood stream and into the body.

Companies create conventional cosmetics and beauty products using oils and fillers that weigh down skin and clog the pores. Although some of these products create the appearance of smooth, even skin, bacteria and dirt become trapped in the skin by the oils in conventional cosmetics and create pimples and blemishes. Most men and women then resort to even more cosmetic use to cover up these skin problems, resulting in an even greater incidence of clogged pores. Skin absorbs the oils and fillers in conventional cosmetics resulting in makeup that literally weighs down the face. Not only does foundation and powder look heavy, it also feels heavy. This heavy feeling results from not just the skin’s absorption of the product, but also the inability of the skin to breath.

The heavy binders and fillers of conventional cosmetics also contain chemical additives that are harmful to the body. Conventional beauty products such as foundation, blush, eye shadow, and bronzer contain a myriad of binders, toxins and dyes that absorb into the blood stream. A build up of such chemicals can produce allergic reactions and increased sensitivity in some men and women. Some of these allergies and sensitivities can result in chronic conditions and sustained sensitivity to conventional dyes, cosmetics and perfumes. Hypoallergenic products have risen as a result of consumers’ needs to use products less harmful on the body. Although most of these products still contain fillers that clog skin, the rise of products for sensitive skin proves that consumers have reacted poorly to conventional cosmetics.

Naked Minerals contains no additives, dyes, colors, fillers, binders, waxes, or any other ingredient beyond natural minerals. The Naked Minerals makeup is all-natural and uses only the finest minerals to create a cosmetic that improves skin appearance and quality without clogging pores. There are no oils in Naked Minerals that traditionally clog pores, and the weightless feel and function of Naked Minerals allows skin to breathe. Naked Minerals is completely hypoallergenic with none of the toxins or chemicals traditionally found in conventional cosmetics. All of the colors are naturally derived from their mineral origin and none contain the heavy oils found in conventional cosmetics.

What Is Genuine Organic Skincare?

by Chrissy Birdsall

There are many wonderful, holistic reasons for choosing organic skincare products. The reasons range from wanting to reduce the number of chemicals on your skin, for your health, skin sensitivity or just based on personal principals.

The problem facing most consumers wanting to purchase genuine organic skincare products, rather than those making “organic” claims, is that a standard for the certification and labelling of organic skincare products is not available.

Currently in Australia, the only organic certification available for skin care products is a general food standard. This requires 95% of all ingredients, other than the water component, to be organically certified. Water generally makes up to 70% of total ingredients in many skincare creams. Therefore 95% of the remaining 30% of ingredients need to be organically certified.

Only a few Australian products have been certified to these very strict and sometimes impractical rules for food standards. It has been argued by some manufacturers, that to achieve the 95% certified rating is counter productive to producing an effective skin product.

Currently unrecognised are many skincare products with over 50% organic ingredients which cannot be certified, even though they have been manufactured by passionate organic supporters to the highest organic and natural principles.

Essentially, to make a cream for skin, there are two main components (oil and water) which need to be blended. A synthetic emulsifier is used to blend the oil and water components. Emulsifiers can make up to 20% of an ingredient mix other than water. Hence the catch 22, to make a cream which really penetrates and moisturises the deep layers of the skin with beautiful organic vegetable and essential oils, you need a synthetic emulsifier. Purestuf uses an emulsifier created from olive oil which is synthesised to form the emulsifier.

The cream also requires a preservative, so that it will not go mouldy in your bathroom cabinet. This is one area which really distinguishes skincare products. The organically passionate manufacturers use natural preservatives like grapefruit seed extract whereas other manufacturers add chemical preservatives containing parabens and other nasties to their products.

Organic skincare products produced and sold with integrity by the passionate manufacturers aim to be free from chemicals such as parabens, formaldehyde, petrochemicals etc. and made from as many natural and certified organic ingredients as possible.

Australian (and most overseas) manufacturers are not compelled to disclose the percentage of organic ingredients in their products. The word organic is not protected by any law about its use in terms of marketing claims. Often these other so called organic products, contain a very low percentage of organic ingredients and have many chemical additives, which are not good for you or your skin.

So what is being done to eliminate the confusion?

A group of leading Australian skincare product manufacturers (including Purestuf Natural Skincare) are currently working together to formulate a standard which can be certified by any one of the 7 Australian organic certifiers.

Until then – read labels and look for products which don’t include parabens, petrochemicals, sulphates, fragrances and clearly list the organic ingredients such as essential oils, vegetable oils.

For the time being, for consumers it is a matter of instinct, trust and reading the labels.

Tips For Purchasing Cosmetics Online

by Kerris Samson

Many women are discovering just how tricky it can be to buy their cosmetics online. There are so many different kinds of cosmetic goods available as well as the people supplying them and at first you may feel overwhelmed by the options available to you. However, there are many things that you can do to make the process of buying cosmetics on line easier.

Firstly, you should consider what it is exactly that you are looking for? Are you after ones to help fight the signs of ageing, such a moisturizer or are you just looking for a new lipstick. It may be that you are interested in purchasing a classic colour of nail polish or one of the hottest lip glosses that are doing the circuit.

Really, it all depends on what you want, and you may find that certain companies manufacture exactly what you are after. By entering a specific search term into a search engine keyword box such as “eye cream” or “lipstick” rather than just “cosmetics” or “moisturizer” you will find that a more targeted return is provided to you with a choice in websites available to you.

The second tip is be careful when purchasing products from either an individual or a non-manufacturer. You will not know how long the product in question has been stored by them and the way in which they store it.

However, it is a store that you know and trust or you are may be just looking for a basic item such as hand lotion, then stick to well known manufacturers or stores. Also check with the supplier if they have a returns policy system that allows you to return the product and that you will get a full refund if the product is up to standard.

Another tip is never buy used cosmetics online. Auction sites such as eBay are very popular with people who wish to list “lots” of mixed cosmetic items, and some may be used and some not. What you must consider is that lipsticks and mascara only have a shelf life of six months it does not make sense to purchase other people’s used items which are most likely out of date and not to forget the hygiene aspect as well, it just isn’t worth it.

A further tip is to purchase your lipsticks or mascara directly from the manufacturer. In fact there are some companies like Aloette, Mary Kay or Avon who have sales representatives located close to where you live who you could contact and arrange for them to show their products in the comfort of your own home to your family and friends.

Using this method helps you to get facials and also try many of the products prior to purchasing them. In fact if you should decide to purchase from the company, then usually their representatives have their own personal websites so not only can you support them it still provides you with the convenience of buying the products online.

The final tip that I can give you is that word of mouth is a powerful thing. There are many sites where women have actually posted their comments and experiences on the different online companies. You may also find that many of your friends have already purchased items on line from a company that you like. You may also find that a large number of sites have beauty advisors who are able to help you find the colour and look that will suit you best.

So no matter where you decide to purchase your cosmetics from, it is wise to take into account that the prices shown online do not include shipping and tax costs as well. In fact these can add quite a large amount extra on to what you are paying, but some sites will offer you free shipping if you spend over a certain amount. Also it is an idea to keep an eye out for those sales on the web only, which will not just save you money but will provide you with the convenience of shopping from home.

My Simple Antiaging Skin Care Treatment Program To Delay The Aging Process!

by Dean Caporella

Why is the human race so hung up these days in maintaining their youthful looks for as long as possible? Antiaging skin care treatment is big business today and a major reason is the voracious appetite the baby boomer generation have in defying the aging process.

Responsible for just about every major trend in the last 50 years from fast foods to real estate, the baby boomer generation has embraced the concept of health and wellness during the past two decades and driven skin care treatment and health related products through the 'profit roof' for those savvy enough to 'catch this enormous wave' and ride it for all it's worth. What's it worth? Literally billions and still on an upward spiral!

Meet Antiaging Head On!

So, can we defy the antiaging process? Sure we can! As a forty something health fanatic I think I haven't done too badly and have fooled more than the odd person about my real age. There's no secret; just a simple skin care treatment program combined with regular nutritional intake.

As a professional broadcaster, I became conscious of my appearance and the need to maintain a youthful appearance for as long as possible. I was already exercising regularly: jogging and gym work but it wasn't until I discovered the drop in nutritional food value several years ago and the cell damage occurring within our bodies due to lack of proper nutritional replenishment that the light finally went on. And the irony was, while I was exercising, I was also speeding up the aging process. Strenuous exercise is a major contributor to free radical promotion within our bodies and unless one is taking optimal amounts of nutrition, then these damaging marauders will continue to 'chip away' within us and cause more and more cell damage.

An Antiaging Routine

So what is my simple daily antiaging skin care treatment program? Here it is:

1. Optimal amounts of antioxidant and mineral intake. You'll need to do a bit of homework here and find the best antioxidant products on the market. Here's a tip. You'll need to look a little deeper than the mainstream market.

2. A morning skin care treatment includes a facial daily cleanser, hydrating toner, a daytime protection emulsion and eye cream.

3. At night, the process is repeated with the cleanser and toner, a night renewal cream and the eye cream.

That's it! It's an antiaging skin care treatment program recommended to me several years ago and the key has been I've followed it 'to the letter.' The result? A very happy forty something!

Antiaging skin care treatment to this author means a combination of outer and inner body maintenance. You'll need to find what works best for you and when you do, stick to it!

A New Improved Skin Care Treatment -- Renova

by Dave Owen

Skin is an essential part of the body. It covers our organs to protect them from harm, reflects our personality, and makes us feel self-confident. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and keeping healthy skin is not always easy.

If we get the right amount of physical exercise and good nutrition we are rewarded with healthy glowing skin. Over time however, we begin to lose that youthful glow, lines and wrinkles begin to form, and the skin loses its resilience.

The Federal Drug Administration has approved a new skin care product for restoring the smoothness of your skin. Renova, containing retinoic acid, is used to correct sun damage, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and remove the signs of aging. Renova is also being used to treat severe acne problems. It can be bought without a prescription on the Internet. This product is voted one of the top ten wrinkle removers and users report great results from using cream with Renova. I found many places on the Internet where I could order this remarkable new product. Most creams come with a money-back guarantee if you don’t see results.

To use Renova you should first wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Use a soft, gentle towel and keep it dry for 15 minutes. Renova can then be applied to your face but avoid applying cream around your mouth, eyes, or nose. It is recommended that you use Renova every night making it a part of your nighttime skin care routine.

If you have allergies or any other skin problem, the makers of the product recommend you consult your doctor before using the product. Use it only as directed, once a day in the evening. Overdosing will not give you faster results but could increase the risk of side effects. If you are planning on waxing your upper lip you should not use Renova on the area you are planning to wax. Pregnant women and women who are breast-feeding should not use Renova without talking to their doctor first. This revolutionary new skin care development will make your skin more sensitive to the sun so you should avoid exposure to the sun’s rays.

There are some side effects you may experience while using the Renova cream which usually go away once your skin grows accustomed to the cream. These side effects include burning, itching, and redness, and some swelling. Other side effects reported include stinging and peeling, or dryness and scaling of the skin. If the side effects continue after a reasonable skin adjustment time, you should consult your doctor.

Renova makers claim you will see results from using this new product in a short amount of time. It is important to use it regularly and in the proper dose. If you happen to forget a dose, don’t try to make it up, just continue with the next one. This product should be kept out of the reach of all children and out of direct sunlight. Store it in a cool place but not where the product could freeze.

Dave is the owner of Acne Information and Resources , where you find information and resources to help clear up problem acne.

Look Younger! Simple Skin Care Tips For Your Face

by Sarah Harrigan

Everybody wants to look younger, it doesn't matter whether you are a man or a woman; and with the wide variety of skin care products on the market today, there is sure to be something to suit your needs. The first thing you need to do is keep your skin clean, wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once more at night. Do not use harsh soaps, choose a mild aloe vera based soap and pat your skin dry, do not rub because rubbing can cause irritation which can lead to other skin problems. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to maintain a healthy diet and do some exercise because exercise not only stimulates the heart but all the other parts of the body as well.

When you are going outdoors you should always protect your face with a sun block because the sun is responsible for such symptoms as wrinkles, blotchy pigmentation, dryness, texture changes and uneven skin color and makes the skin look older. You might also consider wearing sunglasses as they will protect the eyelids from aging and will cause you to squint less, which is what causes crows feet because of exposure to the sun without eye protection.

One of the simplest ways to looking younger that does not require any sort of creams or lotions is to smile, as your face tends to conform to the expression that you carry most of the time. If you are continually scowling you are most likely to develop wrinkles between the eyes, furrows that come from a frowning facial expression and lines that seem to turn down at the corners of the mouth. You should try and have a smiling, relaxed, pleasant expression on your face so that your face can take on that happy expression so you won't look so severe and it will definitely make you look younger.

There are many skin care products that are said to make the skin look younger such as Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion, Retin-A and Alpha hydroxyl acids. Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion can be bought at your local drug store or supermarkets and is one of the safest products that can be used without any side effects. Retin-A which is a rather popular age defying product is said to be very effective in the improvement of the appearance of the skin, but there are some side effects such as skin irritation and peeling and unlike Oil of Olay it cannot be bought without a medical prescription. Another favorite is Alpha hydroxyl acids, which has proven to have remarkable results in giving the skin a younger look and it does not have any side effects as the prescription products.

A Skin Care Home Business - Is it right for me?

by Mindy Benkert

Skin care home businesses aren't a new idea. If you decided to start your own skin care home business, you wouldn't be doing something that numerous women haven't already done before successfully. But that doesn't mean that there isn't room for one more outgoing and beauty conscious woman to come in and make some extra money.

So is a skin care home business right for you? Only you can decide that. I have put together five tips to help you decide if a skin care home business is right for you.

1. You must have an interest in what you are selling.

If you don't wear makeup or use skin care products on a regular basis, then you might just want to consider another home business. Successfully selling beauty and skin care products is something that should be fun for you. If you don't know eyeliner from mascara, it will probably be very difficult for you to be successful.

2. Keep yourself up to date on trends in fashion and beauty.

Skin care home businesses can be really successful. Can you convince your clients that they need this season's newest colors, or why they should try something that they wouldn't normally wear?

3. Skin care home businesses require organization.

Having a skin care home business will require you to have an excellent filing and ordering system. Don't worry if you aren't very organized now. Just remember, if you want to start a skin care home business you will need to be organized.

4. Know your stuff.

Whatever brand of beauty and skincare products you are selling, you must be using it yourself. If you don't trust your product, how can you expect your customers to do the same? When you go to pick up or drop off customer orders, tempt them with a great looking lipstick - the same one that you are wearing.

5. Always remember to be friendly and helpful.

If you want to be successful in your skin care home business, you must be willing to help your clients. Make sure that you can give them recommendations based on their skin tones and personal style. Always remember to be courteous, even if they only order one product. If your customer has a positive experience buying beauty and skincare products from you, they will likely buy from you again. Not to mention, tell their friends about their pleasant experience buying from you. Being friendly and courteous will definitely help your skin care home business grow and be successful.

You should now have a much clearer picture to help you decide if a skin care home business is right for you. Remember, cosmetics, skincare and beauty products are a huge industry. Every year women are trying to do more and more to keep their skin looking young and healthy.

If you are interested in starting a skin care home business, there are many to choose from. Always research any company before joining and investing your money.

Natural Cosmetics

by Maggie Ng

In a world full of technology, machines and elements, the only thing protecting our bodies is our skin. Did you know we spend around 6 to 20 percent of our disposable income on products for our skin? Our skin is important to us and most of us will do anything to preserve its youth and longevity. But do we ever think about what we put on our skin every day?

Sure, many products claim to be safe or may even appear to be safe, but beyond the short term benefits of using the cosmetic, there are long term effects from daily absorption of its use. Creams that are supposed to treat dry skin may actually strip the skin of its natural oils, which are useful in preventing dryness. Some contain chemicals which seep through the skin and defat the skin.

So what's a better alternative? Natural cosmetics. Consider switching to completely natural products, which perform to the same standard as their non-natural counterparts. Whether you're a makeup artist or esthetician which may use cosmetics every day or a consumer who applies the occasional moisturizer, we may not see any immediate effects from the current products we are using. Even though we are all dying for beautiful skin, keep in mind the healthy alternatives. We only have one skin, so care for it properly.

Simple Skin Care Tips and Tricks

by Dakota Caudilla

You don’t need to engage in long, lengthy beautifying procedures or spend lots of money on expensive facial treatments in a beauty salon or spa in order to have good skin. To have bright, clear and healthy-looking skin, all you need to do is to follow a routine with products suitable for your skin type. Generally speaking, skin can be divided into three different types; dry, combination and oily. Find out your skin type and buy products suitable for your skin type. Following a beauty regime using the wrong products will make your skin feel even worse and there might even be skin breakouts and tightening of skin causing more wrinkles.

Cleanse, tone and moisturize. This is an absolute MUST-DO! Regardless of your schedule, you must find the time to cleanse, tone and moisturize your facial skin at least twice a day. Some people do it three-time-a-day but it depends on your schedule, your lifestyle, skin-type and weather conditions. If you’re not sure, visit a beautician and ask for their professional advice.

Block out the UV lights. In some countries and during summer time, it’s not conceivable for anyone to leave their homes without putting some sun block on. Sun block not only protects your skin your UV lights and keep sunburn away, sun block also helps to protect your skin from developing premature wrinkles and lines. Excessive exposure to direct sunlight can do irreparable damage to your skin, so, do dab on some sun block before you leave the house.

Minimal make-up. Today’s teens wear too much makeup. Too much make-up will clog up pores and make your skin more prone to blemishes. So, wear minimal make-up and if it’s necessary for you to wear make-up throughout the day, be sure to go through a very thorough make-up removal process before you start cleansing, toning and moisturizing your face. Never leave make-up on overnight!

Exfoliate dead skin cells. Depending on the type of exfoliation product or scrub that you’re using, exfoliation of dead skin cells should be done either every end of the day or twice a week. Read the instructions on the product packaging. Exfoliation is important because we shed dead skin cells every single day, and if dead skin cells are not removed, they will dull out the color of our skin, cause wrinkles and clog our pores.

Mask it out. Use facial mask regularly and liberally. If you don’t have a mild mask handy, try mashing some bananas and avocado together and use it every day. Putting on mask regularly will help keep your face supple and smooth and it also cleans out pores and reduces facial lines.

Tips on Choosing the Best Skin Care Product for You

by Ellen Kennedy

Your face is the first thing that people notice when they meet you. So, it is no wonder that skin care is big business! Millions are spent each year to treat acne, under eye circles, wrinkles, discolorations, and a variety of other ailments. If you are in the market for a skin care line, there are a few things that you should consider before settling on a product. First you need to look at the type of ingredients the product contains, and then find out what works best for your particular skin type. So, get ready to put your best face forward!

A good skin care product is only as good as its ingredients. Make sure to read the label before you buy. If you are unable to pronounce anything on the bottle, move on to something else. The best skin care products are made with natural ingredients. Look for a formula with Aloe Vera and vitamin E for a great complexion. You want a skin care line that keeps you looking your best, while feeling great on your skin. Cleansers and creams shouldn’t burn or sting. Depending on your skin type, you may find that formulas that contain alcohol can actually aggravate your problem. So do your homework beforehand. If you have a specific problem like acne or sun damage, you will want to find a skin care line that focuses on your problem areas. Benzyl peroxide has been known to work wonders on acne, while alpha-hydroxy helps improve the appearance of wrinkles or sun damage.

If you have dry skin, you will want to find a formula that helps replenish the moisture in your face. Products made with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E are particularly good at this. Look for skin care lines that come in a cream or a lotion form. A good humidifier used at night may also help improve your complexion. Always remember that excess washing can actually dry your face out further, so limit your washings to once or twice a day.

If you are plagued by oily skin, you may find that acne is a major problem for you. Here again excess washing can aggravate the problem, so limit washings to once or twice a day. Follow up your skin care routine with a quality astringent or toner. This will help control the amount of oil on your face, and reduce the number of breakouts.

Combination skin can be a tricky situation. You have patches of dry skin as well as oilier regions. Look for a formula that is specifically designed for your type of skin. Oil absorbing masks applied to the T-zone (your forehead, nose, and chin) once a week will help control oil and breakouts.

No matter what type of skin you have, you should have no trouble finding a skin care line to suite your needs. The key is to understand what different ingredients do. Research anything that you don’t understand- and don’t be fooled into thinking that a product has to be expensive to work. Some of the best products on the market cost less than $10 dollars a bottle!

Acne Skin Care Products

by Kirsten Hawkins

We all need to follow a skin care regimen to keep our skin healthy and in top shape. Our skin can reflect on how we take care of our body. At some point of our lives, it is almost inevitable that we experience having minor forms of skin infections caused by acne like pimples and blackheads. Teenagers are more prone to it as the body undergoes different hormonal changes. As the body continually grows towards adulthood, individuals really have no way of stopping it and can only lessen its effects. By using different methods and acne skin care products person’s that are more prone to it can control its growth.

Acne skin care products performance can greatly depend on how an individual's skin type reacts to it. It must conform to the skin’s characteristics, which may include skin sensitivity, tone, ethnicity and gender. There are many acne skin care products in the market with different active ingredients and solutions for different skin types. Acne prone skin can be very sensitive to different chemicals and must be very careful in using different products. There are different tips and techniques for mild to severe cases of acnes. Some acne skin care products may not work for some people in helping them improve the look and condition of their skin.

Among the commonly used acne skin care product is the facial cleanser. There are many types of cleansers available that are good and gentle for the skin. It is easy to find a cleanser that is made specifically for a person’s skin type. Using a different soap for your face is also important since bath soaps can be harmful to acne-prone individuals. Testing different acne skin care products may do more harm than good. Skin toners contain ingredients that can dry skin making it susceptible to acne.

A moisturizer is well recommended for individuals that are using benzoyl peroxide to keep the skin from becoming too dry. Upon using acne skin care products for treating blemishes, using moisturizers can keep the skin in balance and helps prevent some of the dryness on its initial stages. Benzoyl peroxide can be harmful to a few individuals. When it exceeds the reasonable quantity and concentration, it can cause severe swelling and flaking. Testing acne skin care products and starting at lesser amounts of dosage is advised to keep track of your skin’s reaction.

Manual razors are better than electric razors since it can give you more control as you shave. Quality safety razors are not hard to find, it can make shaving easier. Changing the blade more often can lessen the skin irritation for acne prone individuals. Blunt and uneven blades can cause accidents like cuts. Unclean blades can also infect open scars and pimples. Opening a scar or blemish can cause a secondary bacterial infection and a permanent scar. Using a shaving cream can prevent burns acquired from shaving and it can also lessen the possibility of bacteria from entering cuts.

Aside from acne skin care products you can also rely for health supplements like vitamins. Vitamins A, B6, C and E can be good for acne treatment and are essential for a healthy skin. Being watchful on your diet and sugar intake can also help minimizing acne problems. Foods rich in sulfur like garlic and onions can be use to cure acne. Consulting a dermatologist for the right acne skin care product can save you the time and effort in reaching the desired results. Skin experts can give you a proper advise on how to treat your skin well.

Skin Care Treatments - How to Look Younger for the Holidays

by Ken Black

Do you have company coming over, or are you visiting family and friends for Christmas ? Are you planning to go out on New Years Eve ? Whatever the reason, most people want to look their best at least during the most important times of the year.

So, what ways are out there to make you look more stunning as fast as possible ?

Well, you could try and lose some weight, but that's not easy of course, especially if you have lots of pounds to lose. And, can you lose it all within one month ?

You might also be able to go to an expensive Spa and get a total makeover. Good idea, but, that might cost one thousand dollars or more.

What about just going shopping and buying some high end shoes and clothes to make you look younger ? Another fair idea, but that might set you back two hundred dollars or more.

If you’re between the ages of thirty five and ninety five, you might want to try making your face more youthful looking. After all that’s what people notice and remember the most.

A premium anti wrinkle and anti aging skin care cream or lotion is often referred to as a "face lift in a jar" and can do wonders for your looks and often has excellent effects within thirty days. And the best products usually sell for less than one hundred dollars. Truly a great bargain and an easy way to quickly transform yourself into how you may have looked years ago.

So why do people get wrinkles anyway ?

You can find an indepth discussion of this at www.skin-care-reviews.com/wrinkles-101.html, but to summarize, sun exposure, smoking, and your age contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the fibers that keep your skin firm and supple. You can’t fight the passage of time, but you can apply sunscreen if you’re going out into the sun, quit smoking, and use an anti wrinkle cream to battle the effects of skin damage.

Try and buy a product that contains some or all of the following :

1. Alpha, beta and poly-hydroxy acids, which gently remove surface layers of skin to remove fine lines.

2. Argireline - is derived from amino acids that occur naturally. It works by relaxing facial tension because it reduces excessive release of the neurotransmitters, called catecholamines, that make your facial muscles tense up. When your muscles aren't tense, they don't contribute to wrinkles.

3. Edelweis Extract - isn't just something found in a song from "The Sound of Music." Edelweiss Extract is a strong antioxidant that cleans up the free radicals produced by metabolism and by pollutants as well. These free radicals voraciously combine with almost anything, including the components of your skin, causing serious damage. In addition to being an antioxidant, Edelweiss Extract helps protect skin by blocking ultraviolet light.

4. Shea Butter - is derived from the nut of the karite tree of West Africa, where it is commonly used in soap. Shea Butter is a natural moisturizer and skin tightener. It contains cinnamic acid, which helps protect your skin against ultraviolet light. It also includes natural latex, which has hypoallergenic qualities. The fatty acids in Shea Butter, along with the other ingredients, promote healing and regeneration of the skin, and work to prevent the skin from drying, cracking, burning and wrinkling.

5. Vitamin A - is an antioxidant that is necessary in many ways, including for healthy skin, sight, growth, bones and epithelial cells (cells that line the nose, throat, lungs, mouth, digestive system, vagina and urinary tract). Vitamin A penetrates the skin effectively to reinforce collagen and elastin, firming the skin and counteracting wrinkles. It also works to improve skin pigmentation by eliminating aging spots.

There are other fine ingredients like Matrixyl, Dermox, Evening Primrose Oil, and more, that assist in bringing back that radiant looking appearance to your face.

Some of the leading products on the market are : Olay Total Effects Intensive Restoration Treatment with VitaNiacin, Revitol Anti Wrinkle solution, Pond’s Dramatic Results Active Face & Neck Mositurizer with glycolic acid, and Avotone Wrinkle relaxant cream.

The advantage to these products is that they usually have no side effects, do not require a prescription, are often just as effective as injections or chemical peels performed by a doctor, and they can be purchased at fine stores or at the manufacturer’s websites on the internet. The only disadvantages is that they are not free and they do require you to apply them daily in most cases.

However, the results are often amazing. Many people claim they look ten or more years younger after using the product for four to six weeks. However, like anything else, results may vary. You have to try it out for yourself. Best to go with a company that gives a thirty day or longer guarantee, so you’re protected either way.

A new you could be waiting right around the corner.

Happy holidays !

Facial Skin Care Products

by Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

The skin on your face is exposed to a barrage of toxins and environmental damage on a daily basis. It must withstand pollution, ultraviolet rays, wind, and debris, as well as the harmful chemicals in 99% of all skin care products and cosmetics. The skin on your face is the most delicate skin on your body. Therefore there are many specialty products that have been developed specifically for your facial skin. It can be difficult to decipher which products perform which tasks, and which products would work the best with your skin type. Here’s a primer on the most common facial products available.

A Word About Facial Skin

Before you can select the facial skin care products that would work best for you, you need to determine your skin type. Basically, facial skin is categorized as either normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or combination. If you’ve never had problems with oily skin or dry skin, it’s likely that you have “normal” skin. The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. Oily skin, on the other hand results in medium to large pores that are prone to blockage and breakouts. Oily skin is usually slightly too moderately greasy and is thicker and firmer than normal skin. Dry skin feels tight and itchy, especially in the winter. It is thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch. People with sensitive skin are usually the ones who actually know their skin type. Sensitive skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. Avoid products with dyes, per!

fumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients in all skin conditions. As its name implies, combination skin has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily “T-Zone” (forehead, nose and chin) with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes.

Facial Skin Care Products

Facial Cleansers: Soap can be very drying to facial skin. So it is best to use a facial wash or cleanser that is specifically designed for the face.

Skin Toners: Skin toners offer extra cleaning and help to restore the pH balance of your facial skin. However, these products can be quite drying, so if you have dry or sensitive skin, you will not need to use a skin toner.

Anti Aging Creams: Facial skin care creams made of antioxidants (particularly vitamins C and E), vitamin A or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), are commonly used to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore luster to the skin. These products may make a variety of claims regarding their efficacy and time required to see results. Use caution when reviewing a facial skin care product that claims to be a “miracle cure” to aging.

Eye Creams: Eye creams are specifically made to pamper the delicate skin under and around the eyes. They help to plump and tighten under eye skin and they can reduce fine lines and wrinkles (like crows feet) that develop around the eyes. I recommend “Parfait Visage”

Moisturizers: Moisturizers help to hydrate skin and reduce the effects of aging over time.

Sunscreen: Sunscreen is the most important facial skin care product for the health and protection of your skin. The sun’s rays, even in small amounts can be very damaging to the skin on your face. Protect it with a natural sunscreen of at least an SPF 15 everyday.

Facial Cleansers: The fragile skin on your face needs a gentle cleanser that is designed for facial skin. Facial cleansers may come in liquid, foam, gel, towelette, or bar form.

AHAs: Alpah Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) work wonders at smoothing out the texture of skin and reducing the visibility of fine lines. These products work by sloughing off dead skin cells to unblock and cleanse pores, to improve oily skin or acne, and to improve skin condition in general. The extent of exfoliation that a facial skin care product is capable of depends on the type and concentration of the AHA, its pH (acidity), and other ingredients in the product.

Exfoliators: These facial skin care products utilize a variety of ingredients such as nuts, alpha hydroxy acids, and microcrystals to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal the healthy, radiant skin underneath. They are best used occasionally to restore luster to dull or dry skin.

Sunless Tanners: As their name implies, sunless tanners are used to tan the skin without exposure to the sun. These products vary greatly in quality, time requirements, and ease of application. They should be used with caution. A poor quality or poorly applied sunless tanner will produce unnatural results. These sunless tanners also contain harmful chemicals which can be absorbed by your skin.

Why Switch to All Natural Cosmetics?

by Lori Stryker

The human skin wraps and protects our bodies. It constitutes a living, dynamic tissue system. It has the remarkable ability to absorb applied products, partially or completely, into the bloodstream. In fact, up to 60% of the products we use on our skin are absorbed and deposited into the circulatory system (Fairley, 2001). For instance, the average woman absorbs 30 pounds of the ingredients contained in moisturizers over sixty years (Dr.Hauschka).

These new understandings of how the skin functions reveal concerns about the possible long term effects due to the combination of chemicals used in cosmetics, often termed the "chemical cocktail effect". Several chemicals which are used in common, popular cosmetics are known irritants and carcinogens. Concern stems from the knowledge that most of these ingredients are derived synthetically or from petroleum. Avoiding these substances serve to decrease overall exposure to harmful or irritating cosmetic ingredients.

Ingredients to Avoid

Forms Found in Cosmetics and Possible Negative Side Effects

Aluminum

  • Thought to contribute to Alzheimer's Disease.
  • Found in almost all antiperspirants.
  • Works by blocking pores so sweat cannot be released by the skin.

Artificial colours

  • FD&C, derived from coal tar.
  • For example, Azo dyes are a risk to asthmatics, eczema sufferers and people sensitive to aspirin.
  • Causes hyperactivity in children, severe headaches, blurred vision and itchy/watery eyes and nose (Antczak, 2001).

Benzoates

  • Benzoates Benzoic acid, sodium benzoate or parahydroxy benzoate.
  • Used as a preservative in cosmetics and fizzy drinks. Causes gastric irritation, numbing of the mouth and aggravates asthma (Antczak, 2001).

Certain essential oils

  • Rosemary is harmful to epileptics.Sage is not recommended for pregnant women.

DEA, MEA, TEA

  • Causes allergic reactions, irritating to eyes and dries out hair and skin (Fairley, 2001).

Dibutyl phthalate

  • Found in all persons tested by the CDC (Center for Disease Control, USA) in a 2000 Fall study.
  • Highest levels were found in women of reproductive age.
  • Causes birth defects in animals, and damaging to the male reproductive system (ABC News, Internet Ventures 2000).
  • Used in cosmetics to assist the absorption of other ingredients.

Formaldehydes

  • A preservative.
  • Causes skin reactions.
  • Imidazolidinyl urea is the second most identified preservative causing contact dermatitis ( American Academy of Dermatology: Fairley, 2001).
  • DMDM hydantoin
  • Quaternium 15
  • Diazolidinylurea
  • 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1
  • 3-diol

Fragrances

  • Can contain up to 200 undeclared substances (Fairley, 2001).
  • Major cause, in addition to artificial colours, of skin irritations and allergies (Antczak, 2001).
  • May cause dizziniess, skin irritation and hyperpigmentation (Fairley, 2001).

Genetically Modified Organisms

  • Soy, Corn
  • Effects still undetermined.

Isopropyl Alcohol

  • Drying agent, from petroleum.

Keratolytic chemicals

  • Such as hydroxyl acids, retinoic acid.
  • Corrosive, used in skin peels.
  • Dissolves the stratum corneum of the epidermis (outermost layer), making skin more sensitive to sun damage.
  • Accelerates production of dead skin cells; the skin thickens to repair its surface so that vulnerable skin cells underneath are protected from the effects of skin peeling.(Antczak, 2001).

Methylisothiazolinone

  • Causes allergic reactions and irritations (Fairley, 2001).

Parabens

  • Petroleum product.
  • Triggers skin irritations and may be an xerestrogen (Fairley, 2001).May play a role in falling sperm counts and rising breast cancer rates (Fairley, 2001).Used in 99% of all cosmetics (Fairley, 2001), and in many so-called 'natural' products.

Parraffin

  • Derived from petroleum.
  • In the form of wax, mineral oil or petrolatum.
  • Comedogenic, i.e.blocks pores.

Propylene Glycol

  • When derived from petroleum.
  • Increases the amount of acid in the body, resulting in metabolic problems.
  • Large amounts are needed to produce this effect (Agency forToxic Substances and Disease Registry or ATSDR, 2003).

Sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate

  • Forms carcinogenic nitrogen compounds when combined with specific ingredients.
  • Irritating to eyes, skin and lungs (Antczak, 2001).
  • Harmful if swallowed and may cause damage to eyes (Antczak, 2001).

Tallow

  • Animal fat.
  • Not suitable for vegans, and may be a skin irritant.

Toluene

  • Found in many nail products and nail polish removers.
  • Produced during the process of making gasoline and other fuels from crude oil or coal.
  • Evaporates into the air when products containing toluene are opened.
  • May affect the nervous system, and/or cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, nausea, or loss of appetite.
  • Symptoms disappear when exposure is eliminated (ATSDR, 2003).

In Canada, not all cosmetics list their ingredients on their labels, but most have toll free telephone numbers which link you to their customer service departments, where inquiries about ingredient lists can be made. Reading labels and recognizing problematic ingredients are necessary skills for a consumer who intends to choose products that are completely natural. The cost of a cosmetic is not a reliable indicator of either its quality or natural characteristics. Most cosmetics, from the lowest priced, to the most costly brands, are composed of identical base ingredients (Begoun, 1991).

Cosmetics do not stay on the surface of the skin without penetrating to some degree. Lipstick wearers, for example, consume 1.5 to 4 tubes in a lifetime (Aveda). If one considers the ingredients being internalized by the body, absorbing plant oils and waxes, mineral pigments or essential oils is a healthier alternative than absorbing petroleum by-products and synthetic chemicals. The ability to choose the right cosmetics for you depends on accurate ingredient knowledge, personal needs and market choices. Caring for one's whole body includes skin care choices that support and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Natural cosmetic products and make-up are safer, healthier alternatives especially when these products are composed of all natural ingredients. A natural product is described as one that contains mostly or completely naturally derived ingredients (Antczak, 2001). It also indicates that the product is free from, or contains minute amounts of artificial chemical additives. Caution is required when products claim to be natural. For instance, they may contain small amounts of plant extracts, but the bulk of the product is petroleum based and loaded with fragrances. Instead, consider switching to completely natural products, which perform to the same standard as their non-natural counterparts. The Organic Make-up Company offers a wide range of simple, affordable and high quality products. Our cosmetic products are carefully formulated from plant waxes, plant oils, essential oils from flowers, barks and spices, as well as richly coloured mineral pigments.

Switching to all-natural cosmetic products and make-up can help you to avoid feeding your skin harmful chemicals. Many skin problems, such as acne, contact dermatitis, irritations and allergies may disappear once petroleum or synthetic ingredients are removed from your skin care regimen. Using fully natural products can contribute to healthy skin and a healthy body in the long term.

We invite you to give our natural products a try. They are completely natural, vegan and an excellent alternative to conventional cosmetics and make-up.

Skin Care for Men

by Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Most men develop some kind of necessary skin care cleansing routine in the teenage years. Acne, blemishes, and the attentions of the opposite sex are usually the reason for such routines. However, many men ignore the toning and moisturizing steps that can improve both the appearance and feel of facial skin. Skin care products and routines may seem likely stuff for women only, but men have skin too. And just like women, men can do wonders for their skin by simply learning a few basic principles of skin care. For starters, men need to understand what type of skin they have, how to care for their skin, and how to develop a skin care routine they can live with.

Know Your Skin Type

Before you can select skin care products, you need to know what type of skin you have. Although women often learn these differences as soon as they can hold a bar of soap, many men find the question perplexing. Skin is skin, right? Wrong! Your skin can be normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination. Here’s a primer for men on deciphering your skin type.

Normal Skin: If you’ve never had problems with oily skin or dry skin, it’s likely that you have “normal” skin. The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. If you’ve never given a second thought to your skin before, your skin type is probably normal.

Oily Skin: As its name implies, oily skin is slightly to moderately greasy. If you have oily skin, your pores are medium to large in size and prone to blockage. You probably have problems with pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and acne cysts. Oily skin is usually thicker and firmer than normal skin and it’s less sensitive to environmental damage.

Dry Skin: Dry skin characteristically feels tight and itchy. Winter is especially rough on this skin type. Dry skin is usually thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch. If you have dry skin, you may have noticed that your skin is also easily irritated.

Sensitive Skin: Men with sensitive skin are usually the ones who actually know their skin type. Sensitive skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. Be very careful about the skin care products you choose if you have sensitive skin. Avoid products with dyes, perfumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients that may irritate your skin.

Combination Skin: This skin type is used to specifically describe facial skin that has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily “T-Zone” (forehead, nose and chin) with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes. It is not uncommon for these oily zones to be reversed. If you have this skin type, you will need to purchase skin care products made especially for combination skin.

A Skin Care Routine For Men

Now that you know what kind of skin you have, and you’ve purchased skin care products to accommodate your skin type, how do you know what to do with them. Many men have a fitness regime, a financial plan, and a daily schedule. But mention a skin care routine and they run for the hills. Skin care is not just for women. In fact, men who exercise regularly are prone to having more skin problems than women who do the same. That’s because you’re stretching your skin, not cleansing it properly, and not protecting it from elements such as sweat, sun, and wind. But don’t worry; taking care of your skin doesn’t have to mean spending hours in the bathroom. It just means establishing a simple routine to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

  1. Wash: Sure you take a shower in the morning before work, but do you take time to wash your face as well? (with products made for your skin type?) Gently wash your face twice a day. In the morning, facial cleansing will remove any perspiration and debris from sleeping and at the end of the day it will get rid of sweat and pollutants that have accumulated on your face throughout the day. Use a all-natural herbal soap.
  2. Tone: If you have dry or sensitive skin, skip this step. Toners are usually alcohol based and may irritate these skin types. But normal, oily, and combination skin can benefit from the extra cleansing and pH restoration of a alcohol free toning product.
  3. Moisturize: Hydrate your face with a quality, skin-type appropriate moisturizer such as “Parfait Visage”. And if you spend any time in the sun at all, choose a moisturizer that includes a sun block of at least SPF 15. This will protect your skin from the sun and save you the hassle of remembering to apply another product.
