A Skin Care Home Business - Is it right for me?

by Mindy Benkert

Skin care home businesses aren't a new idea. If you decided to start your own skin care home business, you wouldn't be doing something that numerous women haven't already done before successfully. But that doesn't mean that there isn't room for one more outgoing and beauty conscious woman to come in and make some extra money.

So is a skin care home business right for you? Only you can decide that. I have put together five tips to help you decide if a skin care home business is right for you.

1. You must have an interest in what you are selling.

If you don't wear makeup or use skin care products on a regular basis, then you might just want to consider another home business. Successfully selling beauty and skin care products is something that should be fun for you. If you don't know eyeliner from mascara, it will probably be very difficult for you to be successful.

2. Keep yourself up to date on trends in fashion and beauty.

Skin care home businesses can be really successful. Can you convince your clients that they need this season's newest colors, or why they should try something that they wouldn't normally wear?

3. Skin care home businesses require organization.

Having a skin care home business will require you to have an excellent filing and ordering system. Don't worry if you aren't very organized now. Just remember, if you want to start a skin care home business you will need to be organized.

4. Know your stuff.

Whatever brand of beauty and skincare products you are selling, you must be using it yourself. If you don't trust your product, how can you expect your customers to do the same? When you go to pick up or drop off customer orders, tempt them with a great looking lipstick - the same one that you are wearing.

5. Always remember to be friendly and helpful.

If you want to be successful in your skin care home business, you must be willing to help your clients. Make sure that you can give them recommendations based on their skin tones and personal style. Always remember to be courteous, even if they only order one product. If your customer has a positive experience buying beauty and skincare products from you, they will likely buy from you again. Not to mention, tell their friends about their pleasant experience buying from you. Being friendly and courteous will definitely help your skin care home business grow and be successful.

You should now have a much clearer picture to help you decide if a skin care home business is right for you. Remember, cosmetics, skincare and beauty products are a huge industry. Every year women are trying to do more and more to keep their skin looking young and healthy.

If you are interested in starting a skin care home business, there are many to choose from. Always research any company before joining and investing your money.

Skin Care and pH

by Marie Zenack

Whatever we use to wash our bodies should have a ph of 5.5, which is close to the pH of our skin. Alkaline products (above pH 5.5) strip the protective coating from the skin. This invisible coating is made of oil and sweat. The loss of its protective coating can cause the skin to go wild in the production of oil, furiously trying to replace the protective layer that was lost. This excess oil can clog the pores and actually cause skin blemishes.

Alkaline bubble bath products can irritate the tender skin of the urethra and cause pain during urination.

You can check the pH of products if you are interested in doing so. Inexpensive pH testing kits are available at drug stores and pet stores. Soap, whether in liquid form or a bar, is always too alkaline. The liquid washes or gels are usually the correct pH to protect the skin.

Blemished skin can be treated with raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, which has many healing properties and is pH 5.5. Splash or dab it on blemished skin after bathing. If you continue to be troubled with skin blemishes, consider strengthening your liver, which is your body's cleansing organ. Milk thistle is an herb widely known for supporting liver function. The extract of milk thistle is stronger and more effective than the ground herb powder and is available in any health food store or food co-op. The extract in capsules is easier to take, since milk thistle is very bitter.

Natural Cosmetics

by Maggie Ng

In a world full of technology, machines and elements, the only thing protecting our bodies is our skin. Did you know we spend around 6 to 20 percent of our disposable income on products for our skin? Our skin is important to us and most of us will do anything to preserve its youth and longevity. But do we ever think about what we put on our skin every day?

Sure, many products claim to be safe or may even appear to be safe, but beyond the short term benefits of using the cosmetic, there are long term effects from daily absorption of its use. Creams that are supposed to treat dry skin may actually strip the skin of its natural oils, which are useful in preventing dryness. Some contain chemicals which seep through the skin and defat the skin.

So what's a better alternative? Natural cosmetics. Consider switching to completely natural products, which perform to the same standard as their non-natural counterparts. Whether you're a makeup artist or esthetician which may use cosmetics every day or a consumer who applies the occasional moisturizer, we may not see any immediate effects from the current products we are using. Even though we are all dying for beautiful skin, keep in mind the healthy alternatives. We only have one skin, so care for it properly.

Simple Skin Care Tips and Tricks

by Dakota Caudilla

You don’t need to engage in long, lengthy beautifying procedures or spend lots of money on expensive facial treatments in a beauty salon or spa in order to have good skin. To have bright, clear and healthy-looking skin, all you need to do is to follow a routine with products suitable for your skin type. Generally speaking, skin can be divided into three different types; dry, combination and oily. Find out your skin type and buy products suitable for your skin type. Following a beauty regime using the wrong products will make your skin feel even worse and there might even be skin breakouts and tightening of skin causing more wrinkles.

Cleanse, tone and moisturize. This is an absolute MUST-DO! Regardless of your schedule, you must find the time to cleanse, tone and moisturize your facial skin at least twice a day. Some people do it three-time-a-day but it depends on your schedule, your lifestyle, skin-type and weather conditions. If you’re not sure, visit a beautician and ask for their professional advice.

Block out the UV lights. In some countries and during summer time, it’s not conceivable for anyone to leave their homes without putting some sun block on. Sun block not only protects your skin your UV lights and keep sunburn away, sun block also helps to protect your skin from developing premature wrinkles and lines. Excessive exposure to direct sunlight can do irreparable damage to your skin, so, do dab on some sun block before you leave the house.

Minimal make-up. Today’s teens wear too much makeup. Too much make-up will clog up pores and make your skin more prone to blemishes. So, wear minimal make-up and if it’s necessary for you to wear make-up throughout the day, be sure to go through a very thorough make-up removal process before you start cleansing, toning and moisturizing your face. Never leave make-up on overnight!

Exfoliate dead skin cells. Depending on the type of exfoliation product or scrub that you’re using, exfoliation of dead skin cells should be done either every end of the day or twice a week. Read the instructions on the product packaging. Exfoliation is important because we shed dead skin cells every single day, and if dead skin cells are not removed, they will dull out the color of our skin, cause wrinkles and clog our pores.

Mask it out. Use facial mask regularly and liberally. If you don’t have a mild mask handy, try mashing some bananas and avocado together and use it every day. Putting on mask regularly will help keep your face supple and smooth and it also cleans out pores and reduces facial lines.
